Course description
This introductory music course is designed to give children a fun introduction to the basics of music.
It combines the learning of rhythm and movement, with particular emphasis on the use of Orff percussion instruments.
This pedagogical tool enriches children’s auditory awareness while exploring different tessituras and encouraging improvisation. The course also introduces children to musical notes through play and interaction.
By playing Orff instruments together, children are brought into a space of play and discovery.
Children are also introduced to the different instruments of the symphony orchestra. Two performances a year Finally, the children take part in two performances a year, in the form of musical tales or sound stories.
This approach ensures a solid foundation in music, while keeping the experience motivating and interactive.

Course description
This course is specially designed for young children, offering a fun and interactive immersion in the world of music.
Divided into two 30-minute segments, the course combines fundamental musical training with instrumental discovery. First half-hour: musical initiation During the first part, students follow a personalized program that reinforces their rhythmic and vocal skills, while introducing the basics of music theory using a variety of didactic tools. Second half-hour: instrument practice The second part is devoted to hands-on learning of various instruments in a semi-private environment, limited to two or three students per group.
Children begin with the guitar and recorder, before progressing to the cello and piano, allowing a complete and in-depth exploration of each instrument. Instrument demonstration workshops In addition, the different instrument families of the symphony orchestra are discovered through demonstration workshops, further enriching the learning experience.
All necessary instruments are provided during the course, with the exception of the recorder.
By the end of the school year, students will have discovered several instruments, enabling them to make a more informed choice for further musical learning. Two performances per year As part of this course, students will take part in two performances per school year.

A propos du professeur
About the teacher
Yana Parra, born in 1988 in Caracas, began her musical training in Venezuela with “El Sistema” before continuing her studies in Munich at the Richard Strauss Konservatorium from the age of 16.
In 2011, she obtained a diploma in cello pedagogy from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
Yana also completed a Bachelor of Arts at the Haute école de musique de Genève, followed by a Master’s degree in music performance at the Hochschule für Musik Basel.
She has worked with ensembles such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra.
Between 2013 and 2019, she taught in Geneva and Versoix, and obtained certification in Orff active pedagogy in Montreal.
From 2019 to 2023, she teaches at the Vincent-d’Indy School of Music in Montreal.
From August 2024, she will join the Cornavin Music Center to continue inspiring young musicians. → Read the full biography
